Bless the grapes with us
Khaghoghorhnek, or the Blessing of the Grapes, is an official Armenian Church rite that takes place on the Feast of the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God, which will take place on August 16 this year. Grapes are a holy fruit in Armenia for a couple reasons. Armenians have been making wine with local grapes for over 6,000 years, and according to tradition, Noah planted the first grape vines in Armenia upon descending from Mt. Ararat after the Great Flood. Following conversion to Christianity, grapes remained an important symbol in local Christian traditions (namely symbolizing the blood of Christ), so much so that every year the Armenian Church blesses the grape harvest every year. To mark the occasion, this pop-up will take place in a local family vineyard, complete with grape and wine-related activities and a 3-course local meal is prepared among the vines.
