Armenia Starter Pack: Garni, Geghard, Off-Road Jeeping & Local BBQ Experience

You’ll visit two of Armenia’s most important historical sites, the Temple of Garni, built in the first century and dedicated to the Armenian sun god Mihr, and Geghard Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site partially carved into a mountain, where the spear that pierced Christ’s side during the crucifixion is said to have been brought from the Holy Land. This 1-day adventure will take you to the heart of Armenian wine country. You’ll visit two local wineries, one medium-sized and the other a small family production, as well as two of Armenia’s most iconic historical sites: the monastery of Khor Virap, where the story of Armenia’s conversion to Christianity began, and Noravank Monastery, a medieval Armenian architectural wonder. You’ll also visit the world’s oldest known winery discovered in a mysterious cave. This adventure in the northern Tavush province begins with a visit to a local fruit spirit distillery, where you’ll get to know how fruit spirits, called oghi in Armenian, are distilled, and taste a range of them. After tasting, you’ll sit down for a delicious lunch at the distillery. Then, you’ll head to the 12th century monastic complex of Goshavank, set among the dramatic forested mountains of Dilijan National Park. After discovering the secrets of this monastery, you’ll continue further north to Berd, where you’ll hop onto off-road vehicles to reach the Nomadic Kitchen, where local cattle herders will prepare an authentic, 3-course dinner in the alpine meadow where they live.

Your adventure in Dilijan will begin with a walking tour of the historic center of town with a local guide, during which you’ll discover 13 local sites that are culturally and historically significant to Dilijan. Then you’ll discover Haghartsin Monastery, a beautiful 13th-century monastic complex. After exploring, you’ll grab a delicious local snack and head on an easy hike into the forest (3kms total) that will lead you to a beautiful, multi-level waterfall.
